Is your old gas, electric and wood-fire heating in need of an upgrade? $1,000 rebates are available through the Home Heating and Cooling Upgrades Program to support households upgrade to a new energy-efficient reverse-cycle air conditioner. About the program:
Over the next three years the Victorian Government will invest $335 million to provide energy efficient heating and cooling for 250,000 low income and vulnerable households by reducing the upfront cost of purchasing energy efficient reverse cycle split systems.
The Home Heating and Cooling Upgrades Program will be delivered through a base rebate of $1,000 provided towards the cost of purchasing and installing a high-efficiency heating and cooling system with a limit of one rebate per household. The program is being delivered by Solar Victoria.

However, prior to arranging the purchase and install of a reverse-cycle air conditioner, make sure you understand the rebate application process and eligibility criteria.
Under the program, eligible households can receive:
- $1,000 towards the cost of an energy-efficient reverse–cycle air conditioner,
- $200 towards the cost of decommissioning their outdated gas heater (if an existing gas heater is being replaced with an energy efficient reverse-cycle air conditioner), and
- $500 towards the cost of upgrading their switchboard (if an upgrade is required to install the rebated reverse–cycle air conditioner).
To be eligible, households must:
- Replace an existing gas, fixed electric or wood heating or no at home heating with an energy-efficient reverse-cycle air conditioner.
- Install an energy efficient reverse-cycle air conditioner from the Home Heating and Cooling Upgrades Program approved products list by an approved Home Heating and Cooling Program Supplier such as O'Brien Electrical Rowville.
- Be an owner-occupier household with an approved concession card, or with a combined household income of less than $90,000

- Once approved, you will receive a token. Next, book your in home consultation by contacting us.
