Courtyard Drainage Solution
10 April 2026
Our client identified an issue where rainwater was pooling in the corner of a courtyard, creating a persistent slip hazard for staff and visitors moving through the area. During rainfall, the water had nowhere to escape due to the flat surface and lack of a nearby drainage point, resulting in standing water remaining long after rain events. The location of the pooling was also structurally challenging. The courtyard slab sat above a lower-level garden and stormwater area, meaning there was no direct surface drainage connection available at the problem point.
What was the solution?
-
Drainage Assessment: Our team inspected the courtyard levels and surrounding infrastructure to determine the most effective way to remove standing water without major reconstruction of the courtyard.
-
Precision Core Drilling: We completed vertical and horizontal core drilling through the concrete slab, creating a pathway to run new drainage from the pooling point.
-
Drain Installation and Discharge: A new drain was installed to capture the rainwater at the surface and redirect it through the newly drilled pathway, allowing the water to discharge safely into the stormwater system and garden area on the lower level.
Results
-
Standing water eliminated from the courtyard
-
Slip hazard removed for staff and visitors
-
Improved drainage performance during rain events
-
Effective solution delivered without major demolition or reconstruction
The courtyard now drains effectively during rainfall, ensuring the area remains safe, functional and free from persistent water pooling.
Key Learnings
-
Poor drainage in courtyards and paved areas can quickly become a safety hazard.
-
Standing water often results from missing or poorly located drainage points.
-
Strategic core drilling can provide an efficient solution where traditional drainage installation is difficult.
-
Connecting new drainage to existing stormwater infrastructure provides a practical long-term fix.

Sewer System Restoration
Our client was experiencing ongoing and severe sewer blockages across their site. Drains were repeatedly backing up, causing operational disruption and increasing the risk of overflow and environmental contamination. Initial investigations identified the root cause as a collapsed boundary shaft. The structural failure had restricted sewer flow, allowing solids and waste to accumulate within the...
