Having smoke alarms installed is not an option, it is mandated by Australian law and each state has its requirements. In Queensland, landlords must ensure their rental properties are fitted with smoke alarms that comply with Australian Standard 3786-1993 and installed as directed in the Building Code of Australia (BCA) Part 22.214.171.124. Also, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Amendment Act 2006 requires that landlords must test and clean each smoke alarm within 30 days prior to each tenancy change or tenancy renewal.
Furthermore, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Services recommend that all residential properties must be fitted with photoelectric smoke alarms. Read more.
