I had Jake attend the property and he was amazing! Very professional and easy to deal with, I have used a few different sparkies but Jake was easily the best.

These guys are seriously the A team and I cannot speak highly enough of them, the owner Kemal cares about the customer and goes the extra mile, which is becoming a rare experience. But special shout out to Orhan and Abdul who were tasked with some complex work with a time deadline at our new property. They arrived early, listened well and nothing was a problem, don’t remember even seeing them have lunch, incredibly efficient and a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended.

On time, sensible & courteous tradesmen. Replaced 6 downlights with my own supplied led lights. Finished in an hour and very fairly charged. Reliably turned up as arranged. Used these guys a few times now as they are nearby?

Bob Beaver - 2 years ago

Quick response time on online enquiry form, easy process to book in appointment. Electrician called to clarify questions prior to attending appointment and was able to ensure the correct part was held. He also ensured to clarify and confirm any problems while completing the job to get my ok to proceed. Will definitely continue to book any future jobs through this company.

FAQs

Is a battery worth it?

A solar battery stores excess energy generated by your solar panels so it can be used later, especially during the evening or during outages. Instead of sending surplus power back to the grid, the battery charges throughout the day. When your home needs energy, the system automatically draws from the stored supply to reduce grid reliance. This creates a more efficient, stable, and cost‑effective energy setup.

The right battery size depends on your household’s energy usage, solar system size, and how much backup power you want. Larger homes or properties with high evening consumption typically benefit from higher‑capacity units. Our team at O’Brien Electrical and Security Welshpool assesses your usage patterns to recommend a system that balances performance and value. This ensures you get reliable storage without overspending.

For many homes, yes. Solar produces most of its power in the middle of the day, when a lot of households are empty. A battery stores that energy so you can use it at night instead of buying it back at full price. Whether it stacks up depends on your usage, your solar size and your budget. In some cases extra panels give a better return than extra storage, so it is worth getting both priced.

A state rebate of up to $1,300 for eligible Synergy customers and up to $3,800 for eligible Horizon Power customers, based on 10kWh of usable capacity. Batteries need at least 5kWh usable, an approved product and installer, and participation in an approved virtual power plant. Interest free loans of up to $10,000 are available for eligible households. We lodge the application for you.

FAQs

Adding to an existing system

Usually yes. Depending on your existing inverter, a battery can be added with an AC coupled setup, or by replacing the inverter with a hybrid unit. We inspect the existing installation and switchboard first, then explain which option suits your system and what it will cost.

With many systems, yes. Modular batteries can often be expanded by adding modules, provided the inverter has the capacity and the same product range is still available. If you think you may expand later, tell us at the design stage so we can allow for it.

FAQs

Blackouts and backup power

Not on their own. Grid connected inverters shut down in an outage so they cannot feed power into the network while it is being worked on. To have power during a blackout you need a battery with backup capability.

Rarely, and it is usually not the goal. Backup is normally wired to selected circuits so the battery lasts longer and is not overloaded by high draw appliances. Whole home backup requires a much larger battery and inverter.

Most people choose fridges, lighting, power points in living areas, internet and any medical equipment. Air conditioning, ovens, pool pumps and instant hot water draw too much to be practical on most backup setups.

It depends on the battery size and what you have backed up. A modest set of essential circuits will typically run through an evening and overnight. Add air conditioning or an oven and the same battery empties in a fraction of the time.

With most modern hybrid systems, yes. The solar panels keep charging the battery during the day even while the grid is down, so a multi day outage becomes far more manageable.

FAQs

Safety and maintenance

Usually yes. A garage is often the best spot. It has to meet the clearance, ventilation and location rules in the Australian Standards and the manufacturer’s requirements, including restrictions near habitable rooms and exits. We confirm the location during the site visit.

The risk with a quality, correctly installed battery is very low. Residential systems sold here must meet Australian Standards and include a battery management system that monitors voltage, current and temperature, and shuts the unit down if something is out of range. Installation location and clearances matter, which is why this is not DIY work.

Very little. Keep the area clear and free of dust, do not block the vents, and let us know if you see a fault light or an alarm in the app. We check the battery as part of a system service.

FAQs

Lifespan and warranty

Most modern solar batteries last between 10 and 15 years, depending on brand, usage, and environmental conditions. Quality systems maintain strong performance with minimal degradation over time. Regular maintenance and correct installation also help extend lifespan and efficiency. O’Brien Electrical & Security Welshpool installs trusted brands designed for long‑term durability and safety.

Usually 10 years, with a guaranteed retained capacity at the end of the term, often around 70 percent of original usable capacity. Most battery warranties also have an energy throughput or cycle limit, and whichever limit is reached first applies. We explain the terms for your chosen battery before you commit.
