Frequently Asked Questions

What are the different types of commercial construction projects?

Commercial construction projects encompass a variety of structures built for business purposes. These include, but are not limited to, hospitals, educational institutions, government buildings and aged care facilities. For instance, at O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Lismore, we have extensive experience in delivering projects such as the Lismore Base Hospital upgrades, educational facilities at Southern Cross University and various aged care developments. Each project requires a unique set of skills and knowledge, ranging from civil stormwater and sewer services to hydraulic, fire and gas services, as well as roofing and solar installations.

How do I know which commercial general contractor to choose?

Selecting a commercial general contractor is an important decision that can affect the success of your project. Look for a contractor with a proven track record of delivering high-quality work within your specific industry. A contractor should have comprehensive experience, a skilled team and a commitment to safety and quality. For example, at O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Lismore, we have over 40 years of experience and a dedicated team that has been recognised for their work, including being awarded the NSW Master Builders Subcontractor of the Year.

What is the scope of commercial construction and how does it differ from residential construction?

Commercial construction typically involves larger-scale projects that require adherence to stringent regulations and standards. These projects often have more complex design and construction requirements than residential buildings. Commercial construction can include the creation of new buildings, renovations and extensions, as well as the installation and maintenance of essential services. Unlike residential construction, commercial projects may involve advanced systems for fire safety, data cabling and energy efficiency that are designed to serve the needs of a larger population.

What types of maintenance are recommended to prolong the lifespan and functionality of my commercial property?

Regular maintenance is important for ensuring the longevity and functionality of any commercial property. This includes routine checks and servicing of electrical systems, plumbing, stormwater drainage, fire safety equipment and gas services. Preventative maintenance, such as roof inspections and gutter cleaning, can prevent costly repairs and downtime. At O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Lismore, we offer national service maintenance to help keep your commercial property in top condition.

What are the usual commercial construction and maintenance requirements needed for a project?

Commercial construction and maintenance projects typically require a comprehensive approach that covers planning, design, execution and post-construction maintenance. Requirements may include site preparation, installation of electrical and plumbing systems, structural work, compliance with health and safety standards and the provision of services like hydraulic and fire systems. A project’s scope will dictate the specific requirements, which can vary greatly depending on the type of commercial property and its intended use.

Can you provide services for environmentally sustainable projects?
