Our Commitment to the Community, our People and the Environment
Since our inception in 1924 O’Brien® has grown to become a leading glass provider in Australia and an iconic household name. We are as committed to being a good corporate citizen as we are to delivering expert customer service underpinned by our corporate values – caring, genuine, collaborative, and driven. For us, that means continually looking for opportunities where we can make a positive difference for our people, our customers, the communities we serve, the environment and beyond. We are continually developing policies and targets to drive positive progress and ensure we play our part to make a difference.
Investing in our local and global communities
At O’Brien®, every employee is given a day each year which they can dedicate to community service. This gives our people an opportunity to volunteer time, effort and energy for a cause they are passionate about. O’Brien® employees are also enthusiastic participants in annual charity fundraising events, in 2021 these included Push for Better, Camp Quality and Dry July.
O’Brien® Australia is part of a global group called Belron® which supports the charity Afrika Tikkun, among others. For more information about the initiative click here.
Commitment to our people
We believe a happy, healthy and supported team lies at the heart of any great organisation. We have introduced a health and well-being program to educate and engage staff. We actively promote our EAP program for both staff and their families. We have a rigorous safety program focused on minimising the risks for our staff, contractors, suppliers and the customers we serve. We encourage staff to speak up about any issues and ensure they can do so safely through our Whistle Blower Policy.
Creating a diverse and inclusive culture
At O’Brien® we celebrate diversity; be it our people, our customers or suppliers. We want everyone who works with O’Brien® to feel respected and considered; irrespective of what they look like, where they come from, who they love or what they believe.
We actively promote and celebrate our diverse culture through events such as International Women’s Day, World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, and NAIDOC week.
National policies and code of conduct
At O’Brien® we are proud of our commitment to national policies that further enhance our working conditions within Australia and around the world. We understand the impact our supply chain can have on people and society and are committed to actively working with our suppliers to eradicate the risks of modern slavery. We publish a report each year on our efforts in relation to Modern Slavery:
Our policies surrounding data security, privacy, anti-bribery and corruption are critical in conducting business and ensuring we uphold our corporate social responsibilities.
Commitment to our environment
At O’Brien® we continually seek to minimise the impact our business has on the environment in order to protect it for future generations. We are committed to reducing waste in all aspects of our service whether it be through our recycling targets and commitments, our Repair First Policy in our automotive glass division, or giving back to the community through our Sustainability Community Grants in Electrical and Plumbing.
